Port Mann and NDP Polls
The Vancouver Sun reports that construction on the new Port Mann and Highway 1 expansion will begin this year. This is fantastic news for the miles of commuters who stack up there every day. It's great news for those folks who carpool, as the south side of the bridge will finally have HOV lanes. It's excellent news for transit users, as bus service on Hwy. 1 will finally be able to flow in a timely manner.
The NDP, meanwhile, released an internal poll (taken during the immediate aftermath of the carbon tax introduction in early July) showing they are only a point behind the BC Liberals. I don't buy it, as none of the independent polls have verified such a shift--and not that it's becoming apparent that the NDP's plan to reduce greenhouse gases is flawed and could cost consumers even more than the carbon tax. I guess we'll know for sure when the next independent poll comes out.
